A MAN whose body was found in Southampton water has been named as Oakley resident Kenneth Tomkins.
Mr Tomkins, of Lyde Close, was a former divisional commander with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The 80-year-old's body was discovered just after 9am on Sunday in the water off Southampton Sailing Club in Victoria Road, Southampton.
A member of the public raised the alarm after seeing what appeared to be a body at the moorings.
The coastguard attended the scene and found Mr Tomkins' body.
The pensioner had been out sailing in a dingy, which was found nearby.
He is survived by a wife and two grown-up children.
In a statement, his family said: "Ken was a loving father and husband to his children and wife. He will be missed terribly.
"He had a passion for sailing, which he enjoyed in his retirement."
Mr Tomkins' death is not being treated as suspicious and a post mortem examination has revealed the cause of death as drowning.
Police confirmed a report is being passed to the coroner.
