PARISH council: Last Monday's parish council meeting embraced the annual statutory meeting.

This was the opportunity to elect the chairman, vice-chairman and committee members.

All roles were taken by the previous office holders, so Chris Tomblin remains parish council chairman, with his vice-chairman being David Thornton.

Probably the most significant topic discussed at this month's parish council meeting was the early returns of the parish questionnaire on leisure provision within the parish.

Residents are reminded of the importance in getting responses back to the parish council by the end of May.

With the opportunity for a freepost return, e-mail response or via various drop-off points, there should be no difficulty in finding a way to return them. Even if another member of your household has already responded, do return your own form as the parish wishes to have as wide a participation as is possible.

The parish council will be holding its annual parish assembly next Monday, at 8pm, in the village hall meeting room.

There will be a presentation by a member of the leisure services department of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council on the future leisure provision in Chineham, including the proposed new Binfields games area.

CONSERVATION: On Saturday, the conservation group will be meeting for some further work in Chineham's woodlands.

Meet in Mattock Way at 10am.

CHILDREN: There is an afternoon of storytelling, craft activities and dancing on Sunday, from 2pm to 4pm, at Christ Church.
