A MAN has been jailed for 26 weeks after using a bottle of wine as a weapon to attack another man in a convenience store.
Michael William Marley, 59, of Mede Close, Overton was sentenced at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on August 31, after being pleading guilty to theft.
Marley had stolen a bottle of wine from a Co-op store, in Winchester Street, Overton on April 2, which he pleaded guilty to, and then proceeded to attack a man with a wine bottle, causing serious injury.
The 59-year-old had pleaded not guilty to the assault but was found guilty by magistrates.
He then pleaded guilty to a second count of assault, which took place on June 18.
Marley was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail and had a restraining order placed on him banning him from entering the store.
Marley was also ordered by magistrates to pay £200 in compensation.
