A FORMER agricultural site has been earmarked to be turned into residential use.

Goodall Barnard has submitted a planning application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to transform the former Bob’s farm sight into two five bedroom houses and two two-bed semi-detached houses on the site.

Planning approval has already been granted for the site, but variations to the original plan has meant a second application has had to be submitted to the borough council.

The farm buildings, off Vyne Road, Sherborne St John have not been used for agricultural use since 2001, and have acted as storage units periodically, but have otherwise been vacant since ceasing to be used for farming.

In the planning statement it read: “The resubmission proposal complies with the latest planning guidance in terms of the site not being isolated and the proposed dwellings being sympathetically designed to enhance the neighbouring conservation area and use styles that fit with the agricultural and rural character of the surrounding area.”

The site currently has two vehicular accesses onto Vyne Road, one located in the western corner of the site and the other located near to the northern corner of the site, but the application aims to create a new vehicular entrance.

In the planning statement it read: “The proposed scheme has been designed to look like a former historic farmstead. There are no proposed changes to the scale of the scheme as outlined in approved application."

“One of the proposed five-bedroom dwellings is intended to represent the farmhouse. The other proposed five-bedroom dwelling has been designed to look like a barn which would have formed part of the farmstead.

“The proposed two-bedroom cottages have been designed to look like farmworkers cottages.”

In terms of the vehicle access it read in the planning statement that “at present there are two vehicle accesses into the site.

“These existing accesses are proposed to be closed and a new centrally located access to the site is to be constructed to provide access to the proposed residential site.”
