A STUDENT from Queen Mary’s College has set a new British Record in his sporting discipline.

Morten van der Schee, 16, recently qualified to represent Great British for in the target sprint event and has been competing internationally in Italy, Germany and The Netherlands.

At the target sprint ISSF World Series competition in Suhl, Germany. the hook teenager place on the podium, getting a bronze medal as well as setting a new British record in the event.

The sport is similar to a biathlon: competitors run 400 metres before shooting 5 targets with an air rifle, competitors then run another 400 metres, shoot 5 more targets and complete a final 400 metres in the fastest time.

In a gruelling five-week programme, Morten has managed to conquer his nerves whilst competing against the best athletes in the world.

The 16-year-old is now aiming to compete at the ISSF World Championships in South Korea and is currently seeking sponsors to help him get there.
