THE Café Project’s ultimate aim is the relief of learning disabled people in Basingstoke through the provision of employment, volunteering and development opportunities.

The café in Brighton Hill allows students to build their self-esteem, life skills and independence, and helps integrate them into mainstream employment.

The Café Dome is a community café open to the general public providing delicious food for everyone between Monday and Friday. The café is open between 9am and 4pm with food served until 3pm in Brighton Hill Parade, off Sullivan Road.

The project has grown from a vision to being a significant and valued service for people with learning disabilities and becoming an important part of the Brighton Hill community. The project is now working on its future strategy which should allow the café to provide further support for the students and reach out to even more people in the area.

The project is currently looking for new trustees to join its board, who can help oversee the governance of the charity and support with the strategic plan.

In particular, people with a background in law, human resources and business are sought.

The project is always on the lookout for paid jobs or further work experience opportunities for its students so would love to hear from any local businesses which may be interested in discussing the many skills and attributes that the students could bring to a workplace.

As well as the café, a weekly Friday evening social club called Circles is run at the Café Dome from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
