AN ARCH of balloons welcomed guests to the inaugural ElFest charity concert in Hook.

A day full of music and activities raising money for Basingstoke hospital's high dependency and intensive care units (ICU) was held at the Old White Hart, in memory of Ellie Bostel, who died in April 2017 at the age of 23 after a short battle with cancer.

The event was organised by Ellie’s younger sister Chloe and took place on July 21.

Following her diagnosis, Ellie spent time in ICU and the high dependency units, with the staff at Basingstoke hospital going above and beyond to ensure she was as comfortable as possible and did all they could to help her battle the disease.

This is why Chloe wanted to set up ElFest as a way of thanking all the people who looked after Ellie.

Things got rocking with a variety of local artists and bands taking to the stage throughout the day, from soulful singers to family favourites.

The band 29 Fingers was a particular hit among the families, as their lead singer started a conga line which snaked through the crowd.

Organiser Chloe said: “It was brilliant to see an event that brought together exceptional local talent in one place, especially for such an important cause.

“A beautiful photograph of Ellie stood proud next to the acts on the stage as a touching tribute to a wonderful individual, and a reminder of what the day was about.”

ElFest managed to raise £5,525, with the money raised from the event itself, as well as generous donations contributed both before and after the day of music.

The money will help the ICU and high dependency units at Basingstoke hospital carry on doing the crucial work they do for people’s loved ones and the community.

Chloe added: “A massive thank you also to the Old White Hart pub who kindly hosted the event and donated a portion of their bar profits from the day towards the cause.”
