A GROUP aiming to support people with disabilities has been made available in Tadley.

Launched with funding from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, the new Basingstoke Disability ConneXions group will be run from Tadley Community Centre, in Newchurch Road.

The group is for anybody who is affected by a disability with a similar scheme run by Basingstoke and District Disability Forum (BDDF) in the Discovery Centre, Basingstoke, for the past two years.

The borough council awarded BDDF a community and voluntary sector programme grant of £39,000, to run over three years, to allow the group to expand and increase its information and advice service. This will enable people with a variety of additional needs to access appropriate support and opportunities.

The new group officially launched on Wednesday 18, July and will run regularly on the third Wednesday of the month from 10am to noon, except during August.

Cabinet member for finance, service delivery and improvement at the council Councillor Robert Tate said: “The council is pleased to support Basingstoke and District Disability Forum with a grant to enable the opening of a second ConneXions group in the borough.

“The group meetings provide an excellent opportunity for people with disabilities, their carers and family to meet new people, relax and chat about the issues that are important to them.

“The new group will give local people in Tadley a safe and supportive space to meet and make new friends.”

The sessions will include talks from guest speakers as well as introduce visitors to meditation techniques and an insight into the work of Citizens Advice and the Red Cross are already scheduled.

The meetings, with free refreshments, have no charge to attend with no pre-booking required.
