ANOTHER Neighbourhood Plan has been adopted by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Councillors praised the work of residents living in Old Basing and Lychpit on outlining what they would like to see in terms of development in their parish.

The proposed plan was put before full council on Thursday, 19 July and had been recommended for adoption.

A referendum was held on June 7 of this year for residents to decide whether to adopt the plan or not and 86 per cent of residents who voted were in favour of adopting the plan.

At the full council meeting cabinet member for planning and infrastructure, Cllr Mark Ruffell, began by giving a brief history lesson of the area.

Cllr Ruffell said: “There is a lot of history in the parish of Old Basing and Lychpit, the Romans went steaming through there.

“King Alfred had a battle there and we have Basing House, which is one of the historic jewels in our borough.”

Cllr Ruffell went on to praise the work of residents done in coming up with the Neighbourhood Plan, stating that the borough council is leading the way by implementing Neighbourhood Plans in a number of parishes across the area.

He added: “The historical nature of the parish is one that residents have wanted to maintain and those residents who put together this wonderful plan have done there best to recount this history and make sure it is maintained.

“We have seen some eight Neighbourhood Plans adopted, with several others out for consultation in many parishes.

“Neighbourhood planning enables local communities to have a real say over the future of their area and ensure that development meets their needs.”

The plan was made official by full council and will come into work within the next six weeks.
