A WORLD title could be on the horizon for one multi-talented girl – at the age of just eight.

Ella Dorkin has been trying her hand at martial arts for 18 months and this Saturday will travel to Wolverhampton to take part in the BJJ Junior World GI Championship 2018.

Ella has already won a European title in November last year and then a national title in March of this year, ahead of her world stage challenge this weekend.

The eight-year-old from Bramley began training at The Basingstoke School of Martial Arts, based in Moniton Trading Estate, in September 2016 and has not looked back since.

Proud mum Andrea Dorkin said: “A friend recommended the club to us and my son, Bobby, trains there too, though doesn’t compete.

"He went to try jujitsu and I asked Ella if she wanted to, or she’d just be sat with me in reception.

“She just loved it and now she is there most days of the week.”

Four Lanes Junior School pupil Ella also trains in taekwondo at The Basingstoke School of Martial Arts and used to also compete in football and swimming.

Andrea added: “We got her school report back and it said about how much sport brings out her personality.

“But she was doing a lot of sport so we had to pick which ones she wanted and it ended up being jujitsu and taekwondo.

“You don’t want to be a pushy parent, but also you have to see she wants to compete and take part so you support her.”

Ella will be fighting in two weight categories on Saturday, with it likely she will have three contests overall.
