COMMUNITY Involvement Award, sponsored by Alpha Cars

A ‘WILLING volunteer’ was honoured on the night with the Community Involvement Award.

Mike McCarthy, the vice chair of the governing body at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College (CBEC), was given the award for his commitment in being a school governor for many years.

Mike said: “I’m shocked and surprised to have won, but I am also very grateful.

“It is great to be recognised, but at the same time, it is all about the school, and that is really what all the hard work is about.”

In being nominated, it was talked about how much school governors do behind the scenes, and how a lot of responsibilities end up with the governors as an objective body who are not employed by the school.

“A lot of responsibility stops with us,” Mike added. “It’s down to communication and for us to take an objective view.”

A nomination for Mike read: “Mike has been a school governor at Cranbourne for many years and has seen the school through lots of change recently.

“He is always there when the school needs him and makes regular visits to the school, willingly volunteering for panels and meetings.

“His support and commitment to Cranbourne is unstinting.”
