STUDENTS defied 28 degree heat to race their way to a hugely successful fundraising day.

At the end of last month, 471 Aldworth School students accompanied by some members of staff completed seven laps of the school field to raise money for Cancer Research in their own version of Race For Life.

Students gratefully received sprays of water for completing each lap and once the students had finished, they joined an ever-growing queue for the ice cream van, to reward themselves.

The event was won by Kean Hamilton-Jones of Year 9, for the second year running.

Before the run took place, Ryan Gaul of Year 10 bravely shaved his hair off, to an audience of cheering students.

Ryan’s hair was professionally shaved off by the hair and beauty teacher at Aldworth School, Caroline Stratton with students donating their spare change to watch the show.

The school has now counted the amount raised which was £13,168.19.

Lacey Payne, head of PE and vocational studies and assistant year leader of Key Stage 4 at the school, said: “A huge congratulations to all students who took part and a further thanks to all parents who supported this event and helped their children raise money for sponsors. We look forward to another successful event next year.”
