A PUB which shut down even after petitions against its closure last year is set to get a new lease of life.

The Old House at Home, in Newnham Green, will be re-opening next month as the owners of the pub, Red Oak Taverns, have secured new tenants.

The new faces at the helm, Donna and Christopher Richards, have taken over as co-owners and both of the husband and wife team have plenty of experience in the hospitality sector, with a combined total of over 30 years in the business between them.

Christopher will be taking over the head chef duties at the newly re-formed Old House at Home, having spent a decade with Red Mist Leisure as the pair finished their previous venture at the Hawkley Inn.

Donna said: “It’s both terrifying and exciting in equal measure. We’re getting a range of emotions about it, as we have both had a hand in pubs for years.

“This is our first venture on our own, and we are excited beyond belief to get the place sorted and throw open the doors.”

The site had been vacant since it closed, and as a result, it needs some work done before the first drink can be poured.

Currently, there are builders revamping out the inside of the pub, redecorating as well as doing work on the roof and the garden.

Donna added: “We can’t wait to get the doors open, and so far, we have had a really positive reaction from the villagers so far. We are really excited.”

Towards the end of 2016, over 1,000 villagers signed a petition to save the pub and started a campaign to save it, but it closed in 2017.

The new version of the Old House at Home will be looking to re-open on Thursday, 12 July for villagers, and fully opening to the public on Friday, 13 July.
