A TEAM from a Basingstoke business put the hours in to help out at a school.

As part of Volunteers' Week at the start of the month, foodservice providers Bidfood tasked each of its 26 sites to give back to their local communities.

The team at Bidfood in Hamilton Close took part in a local volunteering initiative at Treloar’s School, Alton, taking part in various activities to help build a sensory garden for the children to enjoy this summer.

This involved everything from flower planting, weeding, painting, pruning and more.

Staff at Bidfood’s Basingstoke depot are also planning to make the Treloar’s Trust its chosen charity of the year.

Along with this, Chris Walkden, general manager at Bidfood in Basingstoke, is planning to kayak across the English Channel to raise money for the school and the charity in general.

Talking about the initiative, Mr Walkden said: “Treloar’s is a cause very close to my heart, as it allows all children the chance to access education regardless of the challenges and personal difficulties they may face. This mirrors the values and beliefs we have here at Bidfood that equality for all is paramount.

“We plan to continue working closely with Treloar’s in the future, providing monetary donations to further assist them with the incredible work they do.

“This has been a fantastic initiative and it’s great to see our employees embedding themselves within their community.”
