TRAINS to and from Basingstoke are being cancelled or delayed after a woman was struck by a train near Winchester.
National Rail have said that emergency services are currently dealing with the incident between Basingstoke and Shawford, which has led to a number trains being cancelled or delayed.
British Transport Police said in a statement: "Officers were called to an area of line close to Winchester station on Monday, 25 June, shortly before 11.45am following a report that a person had been struck by a train."
Members of South Central Ambulance Service also attended the incident, but a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers are currently working to identify the woman and contact their next of kin.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious by authorities and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Latest information indicates that the lines have now re-opened. However, a speed restriction has now been imposed between Basingstoke and Winchester/Woking due to a signal problem.
The disruption is now expected to last until 6pm.
South Western Railway is in the process of arranging replacement transport:
