DESPITE losing her title as England’s Strongest Woman, a Basingstoke personal trainer has vowed to come back harder.

Having won the crown two years running, Farah Fonseca was going for the hat-trick at the event held in Tamworth on Sunday.

During the competition Farah competed in a range of events including max log press, deadlift, sandbag and axle squats.

However, with the competition focused on stopping the 25-year-old, she could only manage a fourth-place finish.

She said: “I was really disappointed, but some of the events were incredibly close and were suited better to some of the other girls.

“A couple of the girls really upped their game this time around and it was a really close competition this year.

“There was a lot of pressure on me as throughout the day the commentators kept saying ‘is anyone able to beat Farah?’ and I think I just psyched myself up too much.

“So, to have people the whole day saying are people going to take your title puts added pressure on you.”

Despite not placing in the top three this time around, Farah said she has been able to reflect and can approach next year’s competition without a target on her back.

She added: “I think next year will be different as my mindset will be different going into it.

“I won’t be the reigning champion, so it is almost as if I have become the dark horse again. Of course, people will know I have won the competition before, but I won’t be defending so it takes a lot of pressure off immediately.”

Even with the outcome Farah is once again focusing herself as she is set to compete in the World’s Strongest Woman event in six weeks’ time.

She added: “Because the competition is abroad it instantly relieves some of the pressure.

“Here in England people know who you are and train with you, at the worlds you can focus on the competition.”
