DOGS, stalls, activities and pirates were all part of the annual Silchester Fete and Dog Show.

The setting for this year’s event, which took place on Saturday, was a Pirate’s Tavern where guests were treated to local ales, cider, Pimm's and wine.

With pirates manning the barbecue and hog roast there were treats aplenty.

In the main arena there was a fancy dress parade for all the young pirates and princesses to take part in with prizes given to the best costume.

Entertainment was provided by C&G Gymnastics as well as live music from Silchester School Choir and the Silchester Community Choir which combined their talents.

Of course, there was the popular dog who where pooches were welcomed into the main area to compete for the much-sought after Best in Show trophy.

The canines were judged in 11 different categories including cutest puppy, best trick and prettiest bitch.

Elsewhere at the fete there was country dancing from pupils at Silchester Primary School as well an abundance of inflatable fun, coconut shy, kids games and races for children to enjoy.,

There was a variety of food, craft and fundraising stalls at the event including: books, cakes, plants produce, toys, tombola, white elephant and many more, along with a generous raffle and a Champagne draw.

For the competitive, visitors there was also some old village fete favourites such as welly-wanging, egg-throwing and a chance for people to flex their muscles during the tug-of-war.

All the money raised from the event will go towards funding the maintenance of St. Mary the Virgin Church in the village.
