THERE was foam aplenty at War Memorial Park on Saturday as over 300 runners took part in the Pelican Cancer Foundation Fun Run.

Families, friends and work colleagues got together to tackle the course which included a mega slide, tunnel run and a giant bubble-filled washing machine, before crossing the foam-covered finishing line.

All the runners and participants received a medal from the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillor Sean Keating, mayoress Gwen Keating and Pelican chief executive Sarah Crane.

The total amount raised from the event, the first of its kind ever held in Basingstoke, is expected to be over £8,000.

The money will be going to support Pelican’s work in innovation and development in bowel, prostate, and liver cancer treatment research and education.

Sarah Crane said: “The Pelican Cancer Summer Fun Run was a runaway success and a great time was had by all. We received a huge response from local people, including our sponsors Phillips Solicitors, keen to dive into the foam and run the obstacle course to raise vital funds for the charity.

“Their support for our ground-breaking work for ‘below the belt’ cancers will make a real difference in saving people’s lives and helping cancer patients live better for longer. Thank you to everybody who took part.”
