THE 28th Hartley Wintney Festival, organised by the Rotary Club of Hart, was bathed in sun on the weekend for one of the most successful festivals yet.

Taking place on June 9, the festival started at 12:30pm with a procession of local children dressed in their representations of this year’s theme, ‘Heroes and Heroines’. The winners were Oakwood Infants for depicting the all the local emergency services.

A cheque for £2,000 was presented to Naomi House and Jacksplace Children’s Hospice, which was generated through selling festival programs.

The winner of the classic car display was a 1929 Studebaker Director limousine, which had been lovingly restored.

The tug-of-war event was dominated by the Fresh Fit Ladies and Men’s teams, and there were also a team from Hartley Wintney Fire and Rescue Service. They were there to try and get more volunteers to join them.

There were performances from YEM theatre group, Orwell School of Dance, and the Glee Choir from Greenfields Junior School.

Support was given from Hook and Odiham Lions, Inner Wheel of Hart, Hartley Wintney Scouts, Friends of Hartley Wintney and other volunteers who helped set up and take down the event. They helped to clear up in record time.
