RAILWAY passengers are currently experiencing a disrupted service after a tree was blocking the track.

The tree had fallen in the Overton area between Basingstoke and Salisbury blocking the line, leading to the track being closed while the tree was cleared. However, with the track now cleared there are major disruptions to the service.

Delays are expected to last until 3pm today, but trains are now running between Basingstoke and Salisbury.

A statement on South Western Railway’s website read: “Network Rail staff attended and have now successfully removed the tree and associated debris from the track.

“Should you need any further information or assistance with your travel, please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

“We are sorry for any delay that this may have caused to your journey today.”

This comes after rail users have had disruptions to their journeys following the change to time tables across the network.
