A CARE home in Winklebury has been praised in a report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Hindson House, in Warwick Road, was inspected by the healthcare watchdog on February 26, with the care home rated as ‘good’ in a subsequent report.

Hindson House is a residential adult respite centre operated by Hampshire County Council, provides care for up to six adults with physical and/or learning disabilities.

The report rated the care home as ‘good’ in all areas that the CQC inspects, including how caring the staff are, and how safe and effective the service is.

The staff at the care home were praised in the report which read: “People received care from friendly, approachable staff who knew them well.

“Staff used a range of methods such as picture aids and regular meetings to support people with learning disabilities or sensory impairments to express themselves and make choices about their care.

“Staff had developed respectful, caring relationships with people and involved them in making decisions about their care.”

The registered manager, Sharon Marie Gray, was also given praise by the CQC inspector.

The report continues: “The registered manager promoted a person centred, caring culture which was shared by staff. Robust systems were in place for monitoring quality within the service. There was a calm and positive atmosphere within the home.” and it was obvious that people enjoyed being there

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, executive member for adult social care and health at the county council, said: “I am delighted that Hindson House has once again received an overall ‘good’ rating from the CQC.

“As our first purpose-built adult respite centre which first opened in late 2015, Hindson House has continued to provide excellent short term respite care to people from across the county, ensuring those who come and stay are safe and well looked after, allowing carers to take a much needed break from their caring responsibilities.

“I am particularly pleased to see that the CQC inspectors recognised that our staff develop respectful, caring relationships with those they look after, and involve them in making decisions about their care.”
