A KEEP-fit event in Basingstoke is aiming to get people moving while raising money for a hospice charity.

Participants will take part in an endurance event with a twist, as people will be taking part in Body Combat marathon which combines non-contact punches and kicks in time with well known and energetic music.

The whole event is being run for the benefit of St Michael’s Hospice, which will receive a donation of money made from the event, with £10 being the suggested donation to take part in the event at Basingstoke Sports Centre.

Sally Blanc, the event’s organiser, said: “Body Combat is suitable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness, and no previous experience is necessary.

“It is shaping up to be a great community event, raising money for an important local charity.”

The event will be taking place over three hours, but each of the different exercises will be taking place in intervals. This is so that anyone can join in, regardless of skill level and ability.

Instructors will be up on the stage to take participants through the moves.

Sally added: “The Sports Centre are a massive contributor to the event. They are providing the use of the hall free of charge, in addition to sorting out all the things like insurance, risk assessments, etc.

“The instructors are all certified with Les Mills, and are donating their time for free.

Festival Place are the other main contributor, they are covering the cost of the staging, and providing storage and manpower for setting up the staging on the day.”

There are around 150 spaces available for people to get involved, however, there may be more closer to the time if the interest is high enough.

The event will be taking place at the sports centre on Sunday, 2 September from 10am to 1pm.

The event is open to anyone from the age of 12 and over, but is necessary that 12 to 17-year-olds participate with someone aged 18 or over.

There are two stages to register to take part, register on the website, and then make a donation to St Michael’s Hospice through the JustGiving page at justgiving.com/bbcm2018.

People taking part can also get sponsored for taking part, however, it is not compulsory.
