WITH glorious sunshine and records broken, there was much to enjoy at the annual St. Michael’s Hospice Basingstoke Run.

The event, which took place on Wednesday last week, had a record 887 runners registered and on the night 343 runners completed a 10km run and 458 completed a 5km alternative.

To date, the hospice have raised over £16,000 from the event and once all sponsorship comes in it hopes to be close to its target of £34,000.

Elsewhere, the record time in the men's 10km was broken in an event supported by an array of Basingstoke-based running club as well as teams coming from Hatch Warren Junior School, the Hatch Warren Phoenix Football Club u15s, the University of Southampton, Santander, Phoenix Wealth, M&S Chineham, Biomerieux UK Ltd and The AA.

Laura Hughes, events manager at St. Michael’s Hospice said “We are delighted by how this event continues to be strongly supported by the community every year.

"As well as saying an enormous thank you to the hundreds of runners who came along, I would like to mention Hatch Warren runners who tested and marshalled the route, all of the incredible volunteers who enable the event to take place, Tanya and the warm up ladies who got everyone ready and Fyffes and Storck who provided sustenance to the runners post-race and North

Hampshire Sports Massage who helped revitalise those tired legs.

"We were so pleased with the support of local running shop Up & Running who provided prizes for our winners and whose Social Running Group ran. The event also wouldn’t happen without the support of MJ Events, Projected Image and the Basingstoke Rugby Club.”
