A TRIP to the seaside with a difference was taken on by pupils and staff at a school.
A team of 25 pupils and 15 staff from Lord Wandsworth College took part in Race to the Beach on Sunday, 6 May, running from the school to the beach at Hayling Island to raise money for charity.
The adventure made use of the brand new Shipwright’s Way, a National Trail which almost links the college with the beach at Hayling Island and the entrants ran a 52 mile trail as a relay team, setting off at 9am.
The competitors were a mixture of veteran athletes, some who had never run before and everything in between.
Despite the searing heat, and perhaps because of the promise of fish and chips at the end, every competitor finished the challenging race.
Pupils and staff fundraised for Robbiesrally, a charity dedicated to providing specialist medical professionals to help children with brain tumours; SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity; and Cardiac Arrest in the Young.
The race was the follow up event to the Race the Sun adventure that pupils and staff participated in last year on the Isle of Wight.
