THE chairman of West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been appointed for a second five year term.

Dr Sarah Schofield, who has chaired the CCG since its formation in 2013, was re-appointed by GPs across the CCG area.

West Hampshire CCG holds the NHS budget for hospital, community and ambulance services for the 550,000 people registered with GPs in and around Andover, Winchester, Romsey, Eastleigh and the New Forest.

Dr Schofield said: “Having been a local GP for many years, my focus has always been how we can make life better for patients. The NHS is continually evolving and developing – new technology, an ageing population and new ways of caring for people - all require steady and consistent leadership. So I’m delighted to be appointed and am looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Chief officer Heather Hauschild welcomed Dr Schofield’s re-appointment. She said: “Sarah’s experience is invaluable to the CCG. We need clinical leadership with real practical knowhow of working directly with patients.”

The role of CCG chairman involves working with 49 local GP practices, local people, NHS trusts, councils, the voluntary sector and many others.

Dr Schofield combines her role as chairman of the CCG with her continuing work as a GP.
