FILMAKERS in Basingstoke are being urged to enter their work for a prestigious award.

Annually the House of Parliament host the Film the House competition which offers the opportunity to put local filmmakers in direct contact with the movers and shakers of the film industry.

The award also is a chance for some of the UK’s talent to take front and centre stage.

Basingstoke’s MP Maria Miller is encouraging filmmakers in the borough to submit their work in the four different categories, which are:

·        Best Short Film (under 16)

·        Best Short Film (16 and over)

·        Best Script (under 16)

·        Best Script (16 and over)

Judged initially by the local constituency MP, MP’s recommendations are put forward for a further round of judging by industry professionals, with prizes provided by the industry sponsors, which in 2017 included mentoring from film industry professionals, a private screening of the winners’ films for family and friends, and classification of the winning films by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).

Mrs Miller said: “This competition is a great initiative which gives film makers the opportunity to showcase their originality and talent. I would urge anyone in Basingstoke with ability and ambition in this area to get involved with the competition.”

Closing date for entries is September 30. More information on how you can apply for the competition and the criteria for entry can be found at filmthehouse.co.uk.
