RESIDENTS were left with unanswered questions after the mysterious presence of the emergency services in Popley.
People living in or near Tenzing Gardens reported that there was a police presence around the area from around 9pm on Sunday, 13 May.
As well as police vehicles, two fire engines and an ambulance were in attendance, but residents said there was no indication as to what was going on.
One resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said: “We asked if we should be worried, we received a vague response that if we live up the street, we just should be on our way and there is nothing to worry about.”
Another resident said that none of the emergency vehicles had used sirens upon arrival and the volume was like that of a “major motorway pile-up”.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they gained a warrant for an address in Tenzing Gardens following a report that a 37-year-old man attended North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke the previous day (Saturday 12 May).
A spokesperson for the police said: “He (the man) complained of feeling unwell having intentionally ingested something and currently remains in hospital.
“After enquiries, officers, along with other emergency service personnel, attended the address in Tenzing Gardens.”
Some officers were seen to be wearing protective clothing, which was confirmed as a precautionary measure only.
Hampshire Constabulary said this is being treated as an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.
