A BASINGSTOKE shopping centre could be set for a facelift.

The Malls owned by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council could be set to undergo design work after an agreement was agreed with design firm Air Design.

Air Design has been appointed by the borough council to develop the wayfinding strategy and to provide a refreshed look of the public realm for The Malls.

The project is part of the current revamp of Basingstoke town centre and coincides with the firm’s current work at Festival Place.

Air Design is one of Europe’s leading design studios for retail and mixed-use destinations, which delivers brand touchpoint, interior design, branding and navigation solutions for both new build and refurbishment projects for some of the world’s most recognisable developers.

The main task for Air Design will be to address the signage of The Malls as well as creating a more contemporary aesthetic, along with developing a wayfinding strategy that will help make the centres facilities more accessible.

Property manager at the borough council, Mike Bovis said: “As the owner of The Malls we are always looking at ways we can update the centre for visitors.

“Air Design has been working on a feasibility study to look at how signage at The Malls can be updated and we are currently reviewing this with The Malls’ managing agents, Eddisons.”

The 300,000 sq ft mixed retail shopping centre is located in the heart of Basingstoke and is anchored by Primark, Argos and Sainsbury’s.
