A GROUP of runners took on 3.7 miles in memory of a man who died after collapsing at the London Marathon.

Matt Campbell , a 29-year-old chef, collapsed at the 22.5mile mark in the event on Sunday, 22 April.

Since then, a national campaign - Finish for Matt - was launched in which people ran 3.7miles, to 'complete' Matt's London Marathon.

A group of runners from Chineham Park Running Club took on he 3.7 miles for Matt on Friday, starting at the Chineham Arms, in an event organised by club coach Jo Chamberlain.

The club invited others to attend with around 30 people braving the damp conditions, raising over £100 for The Brathay Trust, the cause Matt was running for in memory of his father, Martin, who died in the summer of 2016.

Nick Dransfield, from the club, said: "The run was ably lead by Charlotte Dransfield and Lily Vaughan who left their parents in their wake as they sped off! It was a sombre run, however a great coming together of local runners from several running clubs and non-running club members.

"Inadvertently we managed to amass four consecutive years of London Marathon T-shirts. Runners also wore Matt’s bib number whilst running.

"After the run we rehydrated and chatted some more in the warmth and dry of the Chineham Arms."

Donations to Matt's JustGiving page have surpassed £200,000 since his death.
