A CARE home in Bramley has vowed to ensure improvements are made after receiving its latest inspection report.

Cherry Blossom Manor, in German Road, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on January 2 and 3 and has now been graded as ‘requires improvement’ by the healthcare watchdog.

Part of the report read: “Staff were not always deployed safely to meet people’s needs at peak times during the day.

“People and staff did not always feel there were enough staff on duty all of the time.

“People, relatives and staff had mixed views about activities available. Improvement was needed to create more opportunity for people to have their social needs met.

“The general manager was planning to improve the range of activity for people living with dementia.”

However, staff were praised as being caring, an area the CQC rated as ‘good’.

In the report it reads: “Staff treated people with kindness and compassion. They interacted positively with people and promoted their independence. People had their privacy and dignity respected. People told us staff always knocked on their doors and called them by their preferred name.”

In a statement from Barchester Healthcare, who run the home, it said: “We take the findings of the Care Quality Commission very seriously and, in response to the report, we are in the process of developing a robust plan to address the issues raised.

“We are working hard to ensure that improvements in the service are achieved and we are encouraged to see that the report found the service to be caring and responsive to the different needs of our residents.

“We would like to reassure everyone of our commitment to provide the highest quality of care to those living at Cherry Blossom Manor and to emphasise that their health and wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do.”
