BASINGSTOKE residents may have been forgiven if they thought they were on the set of the latest Fast and Furious film this weekend.

Four Lamborghinis were spotted driving around the streets of the town, but it was not the likes of Jason Statham, Vin Diesel or Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson behind the wheel but Alpha Car drivers.

The Basingstoke taxi firms were celebrating its fourth anniversary and wanted to share the love with the local community.

The company, based in Joices Yard, surprised people by turning up at various venues around the town and taking people “for a spin”.

Alpha Cars co-owners Imran Akram said seeing some of the reactions of people when the cars turned up was a highlight.

Mr Akram said: “We visited the Bluebells in North Waltham and all the children there were so excited and having them being able to sit in the car and see their smiles was such an amazing feeling.

“Some of the children even had toy models of the cars and took them in with them which was really nice.”

The head-turning cars also got several adults turning in to children with excitement just at the sight of the car.

Mr Akram added: “We had one of the cars outside the railway station and we had people looking at it, and when we asked if they wanted to sit in the cars their eyes just lit up.

“There was one woman who looked so excited, so I offered to take her out for a spin and you can see she was quite emotional.

“Afterwards she told me that she had recently been diagnosed with cancer and that experience in the car was one of the most positive things she had recently done.”

Along with the four-year celebrations, the taxi firm also presented a certificate to Cancer Resarch UK for its fundraising efforts last year in which the company raised £4,444.44.
