YEAR 9 pupils got the chance to lead lessons when they visited a primary school.

Everest Community Academy pupils were welcomed by St Bede's Catholic Primary School to teach French and Spanish lessons to Year 3 and 4 pupils in the first visit of three which will brand the students as Foreign Language Leaders.

The Language Leader Award helps pupils learn to lead, using language teaching as the medium.

Throughout the year-long programme they develop their leadership skills, growing in confidence and enhancing their future careers.

The pupils planned, led and then evaluated the 20-minute-long sessions which teachers in both schools said were very successful and enjoyable.

Suzy Berte, modern foreign languages teacher at Everest, said: "The Everest students have gained an insight into the challenges of leading in a classroom and have developed a newfound respect for the teaching profession.

"The two schools are hoping to develop a link through languages with future visits already planned for the next school term."
