FOUR people have been arrested with the intent to supply class A drugs around Basingstoke.

Basingstoke’s Safer Neighbourhood Team executed searches at two addresses yesterday (Thursday 29 March)– one in Lindisfarne Close, Popley, and another in Freemantle Close, Oakridge.

The arrests are part of Hampshire Constabulary’s Operation Fortress, a campaign aimed at shielding communities from drug-related harm through enforcement and partnership working.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Basingstoke, arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A, a 37-year-old woman from Basingstoke, arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A, a 22-year-old man from Reading, Berkshire, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug and a 17-year-old boy from Slough, Berkshire, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.

All four people are currently in custody.

Sergeant Carl Holmes said: “People who bring drugs into our communities should feel at constant risk of being stopped and arrested.

“We work hard to identify the networks that cause the most harm and dismantle them.

“Operations like the one today are done with the support of the community in giving us information.

“Any information you provide helps us build up a picture of what is really going on, which means we can take action.”

If anyone suspects drugs are being dealt within their neighbourhood, they are asked to contact the police on 101 or they can report information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
