A GROUP of friends are set to run the gauntlet in memory of a seven-year-old boy who died from cancer.

Timmi Wojtasik died in August last year having been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2014.

Having spent his final days at Naomi House and Jacksplace hospice, a group of friends of his parents, Ewelina and Paewl from Basingstoke, will be raising money in his memory.

The group of 17 will take part in the The Gauntlet Games 5k run at the children’s hospice in Winchester.

One of the participants, Abby Jackson, said: “After Naomi House and Jacksplace had been so supportive after Timmi’s death, she (Ewelina) was told about the Gauntlet Games and asked us if we wanted to take part.

“Of course we all said yes and we want to help give something back for everything they have done for our friend.”

The Gauntlet Games, which takes place on May 12, is similar to Tough Mudder events where participants have to battle through obstacles.

Abby added that the group wanted to do something which they thought Timmi would love.

She added: “He was such a lovely, bubbly child. Even up until the point that he started his chemo he was joking and laughing.

“He was just like any other inquisitive child.

“He would always be with his best friend, the family’s black lab Freddie, who he loved taking on walks.

“Timmi kept saying how happy he was there, and he passed away in his sleep with a smile on his face.”

Abby praised Naomi House and Jacksplace for being ‘fantastic’ with Timmi and the support it has given the family since his death. This is why they are aiming to raise £2,000 for the hospice.
