TWO men who were found in a car filled with the smell of cannabis have avoided a jail sentence for dealing the drug.

Blaze Daley, 28, of Chiltern Way, Buckskin and Jack-Samuel Norman Jepp, 25, of Aldershot both appeared in Winchester Crown Court on Friday, 16 March having each pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis at an earlier hearing.

The pair were arrested on June 26, 2017 after police saw Daley driving a car around a roundabout at an ‘excessive speed’.

When they were pulled over, officers were greeted with an intense smell of cannabis coming from inside the car.

Upon further, inspection officers found an amount of cannabis in the vehicle.

Prosecuting, James Kellam told the court that in total, the cannabis found with the pair had a street value of around £640.

Mr Kellam said: “The pair were very compliant with the police and had both admitted that they were involved in, and had been for some time, in the dealing of cannabis.”

Defending the pair, Russell Pine said that the two men understood the significant of the crime they had committed.

In reference to Jepp, Mr Pine said: “He deeply regrets his involvement and just wants to be there for the birth of his son who is expected in a few weeks.”

When addressing Daley’s background, Mr Pine told the court that the 28-year-old accepts that he has a “long-standing problem with the drug”.

Mr Pine said: “The reason he was involved in this type of activity was because of his longstanding and substantial cannabis habit.

“He has said to me that he is concerned as to whether he will be able to kick that habit completely, which is why I propose we support him in rehabilitation rather than a custodial sentence.”

In sentencing, Judge Douglas Field said: “You both have a long association with cannabis and that has led you to be in front of me today, and you have both shown regret with you involvement of the use of an illegal substance.”

Both Daley and Jepp were sentenced to nine months in jail, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete rehabilitation activity days, 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £140 victim surcharge.

An order was also made for the forfeiture of the drugs in the pair’s possession and the phones they used.
