A MEDIEVAL-themed adventure golf course could be coming to Basingstoke.

As part of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s plans to invest £1.3 million into leisure facilities in the borough, a planning application has been submitted to upgrade to the mini golf facility at Basingstoke Golf Centre, in Worting Road.

The proposed £370,000 investment for the family attraction, which is managed by the Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust and their agent Serco, on behalf of the borough council, will see the course’s nine holes plus a putting green upgraded to a new adventure golf course, which will include an educational element as well as being fully accessible for disabled users.

Cabinet member for communities and community safety, Cllr Simon Bound, said: “The activities at the Golf Centre are ideal for families but these investments to council-owned leisure facilities are necessary to ensure they remain high quality for our residents. The new medieval theme brings the fun element that will be sure to attract families of all ages.”

The investment made by the borough council will also go towards upgrading facilities at the Aquadrome and Tadley Swimming Pool.

If the planning application is given the go-ahead, then improvement work would begin in the Spring and the new golf attraction would be open in time for Summer 2018.

Chair of the Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust Hazel Tilbury said: "The Adventure golf brings together a fun, educational and competitive experience in one exciting new facility.

“The medieval theme links to the market town heritage of Basingstoke, which will allow local school children to learn more about the history of the town in a fun enjoyable manner. Being fully accessible and family friendly we are hoping to attract customers from all around the local area giving Basingstoke residents a facility they can be proud of."
