FIRE crews were called to Basingstoke railway station this morning after reports of a train fire.
However, it has now been confirmed that this was a false alarm, that the incident was in fact a passenger train’s brakes overheating on platform two. This caused the alarm to be raised and the fire service to be called.
No one was on board the train.
Crews from Tadley, Hartley Wintney, and Fleet as well as two crews from Basingstoke attended the incident at 10:46am.
They monitored the situation, and have now moved on, after getting the stop message at 11:20am.
However, many trains are still delayed due to the adverse weather conditions.
