A MAN broke his leg in three places at a newly-opened trampoline park is calling for improved safety measures.

David Andrews attended one of the “after dark” party sessions at Flip Out in Festival Place last month and after watching a safety video, the 29-year-old was free to explore the £2 million centre.

However, after nearly two hours of enjoyment, Mr Andrews tried to jump from the centre’s full-size padded Lamborghini onto one of the higher tension trampolines, when he landed and felt a snap.

“It was the loudest crack I have ever heard,” the IT engineer told The Gazette.

“The staff cleared the centre pretty quickly, but then it became apparently very quickly they didn’t know how to deal with the incident. I was lying on the trampoline bleeding, with my bone coming through my skin and there was no offer of any first aid until the paramedics arrived.

“When I said I was starting to feel a bit sick, they gave me a bit of cardboard to be sick on, no sick bowl or anything like that.”

Flip Out Basingstoke say first aiders were in the area at the time of the accident and called for an ambulance for Mr Andrews.

Mr Andrews was taken to hospital where he had to have emergency surgery on his left leg, including having a metal rod inserted in to it.

Since being released from Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital on February 6, the 29-year-old has had to rely on a zimmer frame to get around as he struggles to walk.

He added: “Thankfully I have been able to work from home otherwise I wouldn’t be able to afford my mortgage.

“The frustrating thing is I haven’t heard anything from Flip Out; if they are looking into the incident, if the tension of the trampoline was too tight, nothing.”

A spokesman for Flip Out Basingstoke said: “Since opening in January we have welcomed thousands of people who have safely used the trampolines. Three trained first aiders were in the arena at the time of the incident who assessed Mr Andrew’s injury and called an ambulance.

Safety is our number one priority and we strive to ensure that everyone who visits can enjoy all of the activities in a safe environment.”
