A SINGER/songwriter from Basingstoke managed to impress 97 judges and take a step closer to winning £50,000.

Jodie Steele, who has starred in the West End in Fame and Legally Blonde, but is most recognised for playing Elphaba in the smash hit international tour of Wicked, appeared on the new BBC One singing contest All Together Now.

Hosted by comedian Rob Beckett, with chief judge Geri Horner, All Together Now is the brand new singing competition with a twist.

A range of talented performers take to the stage to perform in front of The 100 - a unique panel of music experts and singers from all over the UK.

Each act performs for The 100, willing them to vote with their voices, and stand up and join in. The greater the number that stand up and sing along, the higher the act’s score.

If any of The 100 like what they hear, they can stand up, join in and sing along.

Jodie wowed 97 of the 100 judges with her rendition of I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston.

Before taking to the stage, Jodie said: “I am always singing.

“I sing when I’m down, when I’m happy and always in the car. It’s like a full-on concert down the M25.”

After her performance, head judge Geri Horner said Jodie’s performance was “effortless and cute”.

After blowing the judges away Jodie has been put straight into the final which will air on Saturday, 3 March where she will sing for the chance to win £50,000.
