THE final phase of a major housing development is a step closer to being completed after a plan to build 83 houses was submitted.

As part of the plans to deliver 200 new homes on land off Minchens Lane, Bramley the final phase is now being put to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The application has been submitted by Persimmon Homes to build 83 new homes and to incorporate landscaping and hedgerows into the layout in a bid to provide an attractive landscape.

As previously reported in The Gazette, the construction of the 200 homes would involve transforming empty agricultural land for the development which will be served by an access road off of Minchens Lane.

The development would include seven named areas called the Gateway, The Front Room, The Lane, Ten Acre Place, Clift Avenue, Clift Mead and The Meadow.

A planning statement for the application read: “As with previous phases the proposed layout is for a loose form of development that is orientated to face either the open space or the proposed internal access road.

“This provides for a traditional road frontage relationship to be created for all dwellings, where private and public spaces are well-defined and scope for meaningful landscaped is allowed.

“The general design approach taken to the dwellings has been to provide a mix of large substantial family dwellings, and smaller cottage-type homes suitable for couples, young families and those wishing to downsize.”

The development, which will be delivered by Charles Church Southern Limited, has met stumbling blocks along the way with the phase three application being criticised by parish councillors saying that the design of the properties did not fit with the rest of the village.

However no objections have been raised to this application. The latest planning statement adds: “Bramley contains a multitude of housing ages and styles which provide a mixture of construction elements and architectural details that can be incorporated into new development.”

A decision on the application is due to be made by April 17. To comment on the plan, go to visit planning.basingstoke.gov.uk and search for 17/04282/RES.
