A CHEERLEADING squad could be getting a new home to practice their routines.

Aurora World, which owns Aurora House, in Crockford Lane, has applied to change the use of one of its warehouse units to transform it into a rehearsal space for Rising Phoenix Cheer.

The building is currently mainly used for storage and distribution of plush toys, but if planning permission is granted it would give the Rising Phoenix a more accessible base compared to their current home at Aldworth School, in Western Way, South Ham.

A planning statement submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council from Aurora World states that a lease agreement has already been agreed with the cheerleading team, subject to the gaining of planning permission.

The statement reads: “The proposal does not require any physical changes to the external or internal appearance and layout of the unit, this will mean there is minimal impact on the building and surrounding areas.

“The unit is currently vacant and un-used, therefore, not generating any employment opportunities for the environment.

“The application will generate more employment availability due to the use of the unit.

“Although music is required for the cheerleading routines, the building is detached and set back from the main road.

“The music will be contained within the property, as the only means for the music to escape would be through the shutter door and main entrance.”

Formed in 2015, Rising Phoenix has become hugely successful, with the team recording three first place finishes at competitions in the last year.

Currently the team train three times a week at Aldworth School, with a number of different teams for various age ranges.

Rising Phoenix is recruiting new members for the 2017/18 season.
