A DAY nursery based at Basingstoke hospital has maintained its ‘good’ rating after a recent inspection by Ofsted.

Inspectors visited the Busy Bees Day Nursery, in Aldermaston Road, on November 27, and have now rated the facility as ‘good’ overall.

The nursery prides itself on progression children’s learning and giving them confidence to express themselves and share their views.

At the time of inspection, the nursery had 122 children on its role, with the facility open five days a week between 7am - 6pm.

During the visit, inspector Anneliese Fox-Jones found that children were encouraged to be independent.

The report read: “The management team provides positive guidance for staff to improve the quality of teaching and practice.

“Staff use their detailed observations to support children’s next steps effectively. The management team successfully analyses data and monitors children’s progress well.

“Children make good progress in their personal, social and emotional development. For example, they demonstrate good levels of confidence, independence and self-esteem.”

However, the report did say there is still room for improvement.

In one instance, it read that the nursery needs to take a more focused approach to the learning side of what it provides to reach an ‘outstanding’ rating.

The report read: “Staff do not consistently focus on recognising the mathematical learning opportunities, particularly for younger children to extend their knowledge.

“Staff do not provide a broad range of opportunities to support and challenge children’s imaginative play, particularly during child-initiated activities.”
