NOT quite in time for a white Christmas, snow fell two days later in the borough, dusting a festive feel with the cold weather.

A Yellow warning for snow was put in place for Basingstoke between 6pm Tuesday (December 26) and 11am today (December 27.) This saw the borough get a dusting of snow which was up to around half an inch in depth and temperatures of 1C or less predicted for the whole day. The cold temperature is combined with it feeling like it will be between -4C and -5C all day.

The Met Office predict another hour of light snow slightly later on today at 11am.

A statement from the Met Office said: “Heavy rain turning to snow in places. An area of heavy rain will extend northeast across the area later on Tuesday, easing from eastern areas on Wednesday.

"The rain is likely to turn to snow in places, mainly over higher ground, initially across Wales, then across parts of central and eventually southern England. Some roads and railways are likely to be affected by longer journey times due to standing water or snow.”
