A DRIVER escaped unhurt after his car flipped over on a Hampshire motorway.

Firefighters said the vehicle was overtaking a lorry on the M3 when it aquaplaned and ended up on its roof on the central reservation.

The driver was uninjured but was left stranded in the middle of the motorway.

He was rescued by crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, who positioned one of their appliances alongside the motorist. He scrambled aboard the vehicle and was taken to the hard shoulder.

The accident happened on the westbound carriageway of the M27, between the Eastleigh and the turn off for the M3, just before 6am.

Two fire crews from St Mary's fire station sand one from Eastleigh dealt with the incident.
