A MORE focused approach to frontline policing is being called for in a bid to clamp down on criminal activity in Basingstoke.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Hampshire Constabulary has had to issue three dispersal orders in Basingstoke town centre to deal with anti-social behaviour.

Due to these issues and other criminal activity, Basingstoke’s MP, Maria Miller, met with minister of state for policing, Nick Hurd to underline the importance of support for frontline policing.

Mrs Miller said, "In Hampshire we have one of the best Police forces in the country which makes good use of the resources it receives to deter and detect crime.

“What residents tell me is that they want reassurance that the right support is available for frontline Policing in Basingstoke following a spate of concerning crime, including antisocial behaviour and attacks."

She added: "Basingstoke Police have tackled these problems successfully in the past. It's important that frontline Policing resources are available and focused on tackling crime, to keep our town a safe and welcoming place to visit."

"The Police need to make sure frontline Policing is a clear priority in the north of the county so we have the officers to detect crimes and send a clear message that Basingstoke doesn't tolerate criminal behaviour."
