A BASINGSTOKE man has built a winter wonderland to try raise money for Basingstoke hospital.

Dennis Bailey, 82, with his daughter Debbie, has built the winter model in his house out of hundreds of small pieces.

The display took two months to build.

The models stretch out over a 8ftx20ft room with Mr Bailey having designed the houses himself.

Mr Bailey said: “It looks nice now that it has finished, but the real trouble comes when it is time to put it away. This year, I am raising money for the intensive care unit at Basingstoke hospital, and it would be lovely to get as many people coming to see it and leave a donation if they can.”

Last year’s display raised £230 for the British Heart Foundation, and this year, the two are hoping to beat that target.

Mr Bailey’s daughter Debbie added: “When it was my dad’s 80th birthday, we were on holiday with the family and we saw a Christmas display like this in a garden centre. Then, he decided to have a go and make one for next year for people to come and see, which is why last year’s display was the first one. We’re hoping to raise more this year.”

Visitors can see the display from 3pm-7pm at 59 Buckland Avenue every day, apart from Tuesday and Friday, until January 6, 2018.
