HAMPSHIRE Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) has joined forces with a new university partner to help train the next generation of nurses and midwives.

The trust has agreed to offer a wide range of placements at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital for students studying nursing and midwifery at the University of West London’s Reading campus.

Donna Green, chief nurse at Hampshire Hospitals, which runs Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital, said: “We are passionate about education and work very hard to ensure all nurses and midwives who join us on placements have the opportunity to experience working across a wide range of areas.”

For those interested in studying for a degree in nursing or midwifery in Reading with the University of West London, staff from the university and Hampshire Hospitals will be available to discuss options at a special recruitment event taking place at The Ark Conference Centre on Friday 15 December.

Staff from the trust and the university will give presentations from 10am, while tours of the hospital will be offered between 1pm and 2pm.

Courses begin in February and September 2018.

Dr Wendy Wigley, head of pre-registration nursing at the University of West London, said: “We are excited about meeting people interested in studying nursing and midwifery with us at this recruitment event.

“We are really pleased to have joined up with Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to enable more students to carry out placements close to Reading, where they are studying.”
