A TWO-day event which sees teams of digital developers, entrepreneurs, hobbyists and students come together to practice their tech skills is set to return to Basingstoke.

For the second year in a row, the Hackathon event will act as the platform demonstrating local digital talent.

This year’s event will include all types of projects from coding and hardware creation to getting the right team in place to develop a solid business idea.

It is an opportunity for anybody with an idea that could be something fun, something that would benefit the community, a social project or a commercial project.

Jointly organised by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) and The Basingstoke Tech Scene, the event will be at DeskLodge, Belvedere House, in Basing View from Friday, 24 to Sunday, 26 November.

James Belchamber, from The Basingstoke Tech Scene, said: “Last year’s event was overwhelmingly positive and very much the start of The Basingstoke Tech Scene.

“We are delighted to be working with the council to deliver this year’s Hackathon and are looking forward to seeing the new and exciting ideas it will generate.”

Participants will use the whole weekend to develop and share their ideas, working alongside the diversity of experience of The Basingstoke Tech Scene.

BDBC cabinet member for digital innovation and inclusion at the borough council, Councillor Hannah Golding added: “Technology is providing us with near limitless opportunities and reshaping almost every aspect of our lives.

“We want to make sure Basingstoke is at the heart of technological innovation.

“This weekend will bring together some of the best technical and entrepreneurial talent in the borough, really helping to put Basingstoke on the digital map.”
