A CARE home in Basingstoke is on the up after receiving a “good” ranking from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Pemberley House, in Grove Road, has been rated “good” in all categories following an unannounced inspection on June 20 and 21.

A previous inspection of the home in 2016 found that the facility ‘required improvements’, but now a year later staff and management have made huge changes to the day-to-day running of the facility.

Operated by national care provider Avery Healthcare and offering services to up to 72 residents, inspectors found “people were treated with dignity and respect at all times”.

The inspectors’ report read: “The management team were committed to ensuring people were involved as much as they were able to be in the planning of their own care.

“Staff reviewed people’s needs and risk assessments monthly or more frequently when required to ensure that their changing needs were met.”

It added: “People benefitted from a well-managed and organised service. The provider’s clear vision and values underpinned staff practice and put people at the heart of the service.”

Janet Varndell, Pemberley House home manager, was delighted.

She said: “Here at Pemberley House we have a philosophy and commitment to promoting independence and choice for our residents, supported by the highest quality care.

“We take into consideration the needs of every individual; it is a home with a difference that offers friendship, engaging activities and a stimulating lifestyle.”

Inspectors were told by staff that the new management style had led to the improvement in the home’s recruitment and retention of staff, which had led to the decreased reliance on agency staff.

The report added: “People, relatives and health care professionals consistently told us the increased staffing levels had improved staff response times and afforded staff more time to engage meaningfully with people.”
