AN EIGHT-year-old pupil at Kempshott Junior School spent his summer holidays swimming around 11 miles, all for charity.

Ethan Pitter decided to swim 10 widths of his family’s unheated swimming pool every day during his 10-week summer holiday.

So, over the 70 days in total, Ethan swam 700 widths of the pool.

Ethan began to do the huge fundraising challenge after watching TV news and seeing death and destruction in vivid detail, and decided he wanted to do his part to help.

Ethan’s father, Jamie Pitter said: “He has on occasions obviously had to swim in pouring rain and all manner of foul weather conditions, it has not been a great summer!

“On a couple of occasions, he had to swim at night in the dark due to other family commitments and on more than one occasion the temperature of the unheated pool actually dropped to 12 degrees, shockingly cold.

“Throughout these 70 days he never faltered, driven by the desire to genuinely help others.”

Ethan has currently raised £785, smashing his original £500 target.

The money will go to the MS Society.

This was the charity that received the greatest amount of votes by those people who gave donations.
